The Balmoral - Five Stars for Number One

Michelin Star “number one” restaurant at The Balmoral is delighted to scoop another culinary award. HotelReviewScotland.com has awarded number one its coveted five HotelReview Rosettes for Cuisine. These Rosettes are designed to merit the quality of cuisine throughout hotels in Scotland and range from demi-rosette through to the highest-level five rosettes, highlighting “Best Cuisine in Scotland.”

Vivien Devlin, Deputy Editor and Reviewer of HotelReviewScotland commented, “The restaurant is, quite simply, a success; many Edinburgh citizens chose to dine there, and in many hotels that doesn`t happen. We congratulate Jeff Bland and the Number One Restaurant team, now one of only seven restaurants in Scotland, and the only one in Edinburgh, to hold five Dinner Rosettes from HotelReviewScotland.com.”

So far, this has been an extremely successful year for both Jeff Bland and Gary Quinn`s team in number one. Jeff was awarded Drambuie Scottish Chef of the Year in May 2003, which followed closely on the heels of his Michelin Star. Number one has subsequently enjoyed eminent reviews, which have featured in the UK`s leading newspapers and publications. As a result, the restaurant is growing from strength to strength and is firmly positioned as one of Edinburgh`s top restaurants.

As Executive Chef of The Balmoral, Jeff`s passion is raising the profile of Scottish cuisine and using the best and freshest Scottish ingredients in his dishes. He continues to work in partnership with Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) to increase awareness of the high standards within Scotland`s red meat industry.

In conjunction with the latest QMS national Scotch Lamb advertising campaign, Jeff is heading to Holland on 22 September to cook up a range of culinary delights in a bid to showcase the very best of Scotch Lamb. This event is organised by HANOS - Holland`s leading wholesale company for the hotel-restaurant trade - and will attract over 3,000 visitors, including Holland`s leading catering press.

In addition, he is guest Chef at a high-level Corporate Dinner in Bute Hall in Glasgow on Friday 10 October. Jeff was approached by Geneva-based Company “LogiSpring”, who were keen to use a Scottish top chef to oversee this important event.

Jeff Bland added, “Through attending these high-level events overseas and in Scotland, I am constantly reinforcing the message that Scotland means quality. Food is a huge destination draw and it is my aim to do all I can to raise our game and ensure visitors to The Balmoral, as well as the rest of Scotland, have the best culinary experience.”
