Interstate Hotels & Resorts Adds Three New York Properties

Interstate Hotels & Resorts (NYSE:IHR), the nation`s largest independent hotel management company, today announced that it had added three New York properties comprising 504 rooms to its portfolio of managed properties. The company said it signed a long-term contract to manage the 183-room Crowne Plaza Hotel-JFK Airport, formerly the JFK Sheraton, at the JFK International Airport in Jamaica, New York. The company also entered into long-term agreements to manage two, to-be-built hotels in Melville, N.Y.—a 147-room Homewood Suites by Hilton and a 174-room Hilton Garden Inn. “These three hotels bring our managed portfolio to 12 properties in the New York metro area,” said John Emery, president and chief operating officer of Interstate. “We continue to aggressively seek other management contract opportunities throughout North America.”
Crowne Plaza-JFK Airport
Owned by a subsidiary of Lend Lease Corporation (ASE:LLC), the Crowne Plaza JFK Airport recently was converted from a Sheraton and is in the design and planning phase for a renovation to upgrade the property to meet Crowne Plaza brand standards. “The Crowne Plaza JFK Airport is less than one mile from one of the nation`s busiest airports,” Emery said. “The conversion to the Crowne Plaza brand will solidify our appeal among business travelers, our primary guest group. This is our third management contract with Lend Lease, and we continue to explore ways to expand our relationship.”

Located at 151-20 Baisley Boulevard near JFK International Airport, the nine-story hotel is situated just off the Belt Parkway with easy access to the Van Wyck Expressway. Hotel amenities include a full-service restaurant and lounge, a fitness center and 3,800 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space. The hotel is a short distance from Rockefeller Center, Jacob Javits Convention Center, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall and the Nassau Coliseum.
Homewood Suites by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn
Interstate entered into long-term agreements with Long Island, N.Y.-based Melville Hospitality, LLC to manage two, to-be-built, Hilton brand hotels in Melville, N.Y. Melville Hospitality intends to construct the two hotels sequentially, beginning with the Homewood Suites this fall and the Hilton Garden Inn within the next year. The hotels will be developed adjacent to one another on a single parcel of land at the intersection of Exit 48 (Round Swamp Road) and the Long Island Expressway (LIE). Strategically located within the Melville and Route 110 business corridor, the site is situated next to the Reckson Executive Park and several Class A office buildings.
“This is our first contract with Melville Hospitality, and we look forward to building a long-term relationship with them,” Emery noted. “These two high-quality, nationally branded hotels will reinforce our presence on Long Island and also will allow us to leverage our management experience in the local market.”
The Homewood Suites by Hilton Melville will contain spacious, apartment-style suites with separate living and sleeping areas and a fully equipped kitchen. The hotel will offer a daily complimentary hot breakfast, an evening social gathering Monday through Thursday, swimming pool, sports court, exercise room, on-site laundry facilities and 24-hour business center. Additionally, the hotel will contain approximately 1,200 square feet of meeting space.
The Melville Hilton Garden Inn will offer such amenities as a 24-hour business center, swimming pool, whirlpool, fitness center and 24-hour convenience store. The hotel also will feature approximately 2,500 square feet of function space. Each room is equipped with an oversized work desk, two telephones with two lines, Internet access and on-hold feature, as well as a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker.
