BRASELTON, Ga.—Aug. 14, 2003—Wineries from Chile, Australia, France, Spain, Italy, and New Zealand plus regional wineries from Georgia, California, New York, Washington, Oregon and North Carolina, will participate in Vineyard Fest at Chateau Elan Saturday, August 23. This year`s event, the 7th annual, is co-sponsored by Wine Report magazine and WJZZ Smooth Jazz, and marks the biggest ever celebration of the resort`s grape harvest. More than 100 domestic and international wines will be available for guest tastings. Vineyard Fest will run from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Ticket prices are $10 per person, which includes a wine tasting glass. Parking is free. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling reservations at 678-425-0900.
The year 2003 also marks the 21st anniversary since the vineyards were first planted in 1982. The Chateau Elan Winery, framed by acres of vineyards, now heavy with ripening Chardonnay, Riesling, Cabernet and Merlot grapes, is the largest producer of premium and varietal wines in the state of Georgia. The Winery has won more than 275 national and international awards. Wine Spectator added the newest laurels naming Chateau Elan`s 2000 Essence de Cabernet, Founders Reserve ($29), 2001 Nouveau Georgia Chambourcin ($10), 2000 Merlot Georgia Founders Reserve ($25), and 2000 Viognier Georgia, Founders Reserve ($18) as great buys under $40.
Saturday`s events include numerous activities for wine, food and art lovers such as self guided winery tours and wine tastings, wine and food seminars led by Chateau Elan`s Executive Chef Joe Truex, and winemaker Dan Baldwin regarding wine making, and food and wine pairing suggesting which wines best compliment certain dishes.
Each of Chateau Elan`s eight restaurants will contribute an array of taste samples ranging from Southern regional and bistro style foods to traditional Irish fare.
And while this annual celebration is primarily an adult cultural experience extolling the traditional pleasures of wine and food, many other interactive activities are scheduled that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
The League of Decency, a popular seven-piece jazz, swing and rock group will add its lively sounds to the festive occasion. An art gallery displaying the diverse work of artists from all over Georgia, from glass art to cultural paintings will also be featured.
Chateau Elan`s Spa staff will offer guests a respite from all the wine tasting and food sampling by offering chair massages and unique grape crush hand treatments.
Among the fun events planned for the day will be helicopter rides, a grape stomping competition, and a golf shootout with prizes ranging from rounds of golf at Chateau Elan`s championship courses to a grand prize trip to St Andrews Bay Golf Resort & Spa in St Andrews, Scotland, Chateau Elan Hotels & Resorts international flagship property.
Guests must be 21 years or older to participate in wine tastings.
