Aspen Ritz-Carlton Wins Architecture Award

ASPEN, Colo., June 2, 2003—The Ritz-Carlton Club, Aspen Highlands captured the honor of “Best Resort Architecture” in an awards competition sponsored by the American Resort Development Association (ARDA).

Designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York in association with Kendall Heaton Associates of Houston, Texas and Cottle Graybeal Yaw Architects of Aspen, The Club combines the rugged style of classic Western lodges with an inviting elegance and style. Bold, robust designs are paired with simple, rustic materials including native stone, rough-hewn timber, leather and wrought iron to create a compelling structure that is compatible with its environment. Interior design for The Club was provided by Slifer Designs of Vail.

“We are proud that ARDA has recognized our vision for an American Alpine village worthy of Aspen Highlands` extraordinary natural setting,” said architect Robert A.M Stern.

The Ritz-Carlton Club, Aspen Highlands was constructed using the highest quality materials and includes extraordinary features only the most affluent families would have in their homes. For example, residence baths are outfitted in Italian marble, white with black and gray veins, taken from a specific quarry in Italy so as to match perfectly within each residence. In addition, each bathroom has temperature controlled, heated floors.
“We set out to create a new standard for luxury in our Club residences,” said Ritz-Carlton Club General Manager, Jud Hawk. “Every aspect was planned out carefully to reflect or exceed the high quality features our Members might have in their own homes.”
ARDA is a non-profit trade association based in Washington, D.C. that represents the interests of resort developers and managers, including second home resorts, vacation timeshare and fractional interest developers. Its ARDY award—a statuette presented to the competition winners—is given to individuals and organizations exemplifying the industry’s best practices.

The 73 residences at The Ritz-Carlton Club, Aspen Highlands are purchased in one-twelfth interests, entitling residence access for a minimum of 28 days each year, as well as unlimited access on a space available basis. A portion of this time may be used at other Ritz-Carlton Club locations on a reciprocal usage basis. Prices for membership at The Club range from $160,000 to $490,000 per interest for two- to three-bedroom and penthouse residences. Each residence features a living room accented by a gas fireplace and an entertainment center with television, surround-sound receiver, DVD and CD player. All residences have gourmet kitchens featuring granite countertops and high profile appliances, two elegantly appointed master suites, and luxurious marble baths with heated floors. Residences range from 1,200 to 2,000 square feet
