Marriott Execustay Signs Franchise

Marriott ExecuStay, the corporate housing division of Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR), today announced that it has signed its sixth franchise agreement, with Executive Residence, Inc. of Seattle. In addition to Seattle, ExecuStay has franchises in Columbus, Ohio; Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C.; Orlando; South Florida; and Tampa-St. Petersburg.
As part of the agreement, Executive Residence will combine with and take over Marriott ExecuStay’s managed business and inventory in Seattle.
Joe Lavin, executive vice president and managing director of Marriott ExecuStay, said that the Seattle signing keeps ExecuStay “on target” for its 2003 selective and strategic franchise goals.
Founded in 1989, Executive Residence was for many years the only corporate housing provider in the greater Seattle area. Principal Iain Cameron, with more than a dozen years of hotel marketing experience - primarily with Four Seasons Olympic and the Sorrento Hotel - joined Executive Residence in 1990. He purchased the company in 1991 and brought on Angela Williams, an equal partner in the business, who represented extensive background in multi-housing real estate and hotels.
Cameron, president of Executive Residence, said, “The greater Seattle area is a highly competitive market that is very dependent on travel and tourism, aircraft manufacturing and the hi-tech industry - all of which have been hit hard by economic and political events over the past few years. To survive and grow, we knew it would be imperative to connect with a national and international presence that could generate `heads into beds` via joint sales and marketing efforts. When we began reviewing a number of different options, we knew that becoming a franchisee of Marriott ExecuStay was the best choice we could possibly make.”
