NSF Certifies Express Start

NSF International (www.nsf.org), The Public Health and Safety Company?, certifies the Holiday Inn Express brand`s Express Start breakfast bar. NSF is the leading global provider of public health and safety risk management solutions. Holiday Inn Express, a member of the Six Continents Hotels? family of brands (www.sixcontinentshotels.com), is the first hotel to work with a manufacturer to receive NSF certification for a breakfast bar.
“Holiday Inn Express is setting the standard for the hotel industry by taking a restaurant approach to ensuring safe, quality food,” said Joe Phillips, General Manager, NSF Food Equipment. “NSF is proud to offer this first-of-its-kind certification to Core Concepts on behalf of Six Continents Hotels.”
NSF Food Equipment certification includes facility inspections, testing and safety evaluations to ensure international food equipment standards are met. NSF/ANSI Food Equipment standards provide food protection and sanitation requirements for the materials, construction and performance of food handling and processing equipment.
“Working on the Express Start Breakfast Bar was a rewarding challenge. Core was able to work successfully with NSF to obtain certification on over a dozen newly designed products. Several products needed to be re-engineered more than five times to meet NSF’s strict standards. We are pleased with the final result and believe we have designed and manufactured a state-of-the-art breakfast bar,” said Thomas L. Bussiere, Co-Owner and Vice President, Design and Engineering, Core Concepts, Inc.
The Express Start breakfast bar model includes a cinnamon roll warmer, toasting station, 3-tier stand, egg display, cold beverage station, cereal station, hot water station and a Smart Roast coffee station, all of which have been designed to NSF standards. The approved breakfast bar appears on the NSF website (www.nsf.org).
“The Holiday Inn Express free breakfast bar has been a hallmark of our brand since its inception. In working to create the Express Start Breakfast bar, our goal was to raise the breakfast bar standard in the limited service segment,” said Ned Barker, Vice President, Food and Beverage for Six Continents Hotels. ““Free” should not mean lower quality or lax food safety standards. Our industry-leading Express Start Breakfast Bar is all about first-rate quality and first-rate food safety. Our guests deserve no less,” said Barker.
