McKinley Grand Reflaged Marriott

WASHINGTON - Feb. 14, 2002 - Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has announced that following a complete renovation, the McKinley Grand Hotel in Canton, Ohio, was officially reflagged as the Canton Marriott/McKinley Grand Hotel on Feb. 5. Located at 320 Avenue South, this latest addition to the Marriott Hotels, Resorts and Suites portfolio is owned and managed by American Property Management Corp. of San Diego, Calif.
The hotel’s theme links visitors to a presidential/historic period when Canton’s favorite son, William McKinley, held America’s highest office from 1897 through 1901. Through architectural modifications and artful interior design, McKinley’s presence can be felt in every room. Custom woodwork reminiscent of the era lines the walls, windows and ceilings, and large, historic photographs are displayed throughout the hotel.
The hotel’s 170 guest rooms and suites are elegantly appointed and have the same turn-of-the-century look, with new wall and window coverings, carpeting, lighting and special bed covering treatments. In-room amenities include high-speed internet access, voice mail and data ports, work desk with ergonomic desk chair, cable television, iron and ironing board, alarm clock and in-room temperature control.
With over 10,500 square feet of meeting space, including eight meeting rooms, guests will find ample space to accommodate their business and social needs. For large-scale functions, the hotel provides the 6,500-square-foot Grand Ballroom, including a 2,376-square-foot pre-function area. Technological capabilities include high-speed internet access in all meeting rooms and a business center.
Guests may dine at The Dining Room, serving traditional American cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A Sunday presidential brunch is offered, and a greenhouse conservatory, “The Front Porch,” adds a casual setting to the elegant room. Additionally, guests and visitors may enjoy cocktails at Thorpe’s Pub, featuring sports memorabilia from the Jim Thorpe and Knute Rockne era. Other hotel amenities include an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool spa, a gift shop and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

Located in the heart of downtown Canton and 11 miles from Canton Akron Airport, the hotel provides convenient access to a variety of nearby attractions, including the Canton Classic Car Museum, National First Ladies’ Library and NFL Pro Football Hall of Fame. Area businesses include Timken Company, Diebold, Inc. and The Hoover Company.
