Mövenpick Beirut Wins Hermes Award

Swiss hotel chain Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts was awarded
in the Hermes category “Best hotel construction in 2002” for
the recently opened Mövenipck Hotel & Resort Bei-rut/
Lebanon. This five star deluxe hotel has won the Her-mes
Award ahead of numerous other prestigious hotels in a
ceremony organised by HTR Magazine and MKG Consulting
in Paris.
With 293 rooms, eight restaurants and bars, a modern health
club, a marina, the only sandy beach in the city and 4 in-and-outdoor
swimming pools built in two years, the Mövenpick Hotel
Beirut gained favour from the 22-member jury presided by Jean
Claude Baumgarten, President of the World Travel & Tourism
Council, through its original design elaborated by the Studio
Erga Group. “The hotel fits perfectly into the reconstruction of the
city and expresses the desire for the tourist and economic inte-gration
of Beirut in this 21 st century” explained the jury.
The extraordinary hotel constructed on the seashore and only a
few minutes from down town Beirut is a contribution of Kingdom
Hotel Investment Group, owned by HRH Prince Alwaleed bin
Talal Bin Abdul Aziz Alsaud, to the country of Lebanon. King-dom
Hotel Investment Group holds a 30% interest in Mövenpick
Hotels & Resorts and has invested 140 million US-Dollars.

Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts recently opened hotels in Lebanon
(Beirut) and Egypt (Cairo Media-City) and took over a hotel in
Saudi Arabia (Jeddah). Further openings will be in Saudi Arabia
(Madinah, 2002), Germany (Berlin, 2003), Egypt (Taba, El
Alamein 2003), Turkey (Istanbul, 2003) and in Bahrain (2003).
Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is currently represented with 45 hotels in 12 countries
and focuses on two hotel types, the business and conference hotel and the holiday
resort. Whilst the business hotels are located near the city centre or the airport and
offer an optimum infrastructure for the business traveller, the holiday resorts are situ-ated
in outstanding destinations. The hotel group is represented in Germany, Switzer-land,
the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia,
Lebanon, Saudi-Arabia and Qatar.
