Two Starwood Properties - The St. Regis, New York And The Phoenician - Are Proud Recipients Of 2002

Exxon Mobil Corporation announced the recipients of the prestigious 2002 Mobil Travel Guide Five-Star Awards and have again included The St. Regis, New York and its renowned restaurant, Lespinasse, as well as world-famous resort The Phoenician and its fine-dining restaurant, Mary Elaine`s. The St. Regis Hotel and The Phoenician (a member of The Luxury Collection) are both owned by White Plains-based Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT). Alain Ducasse at the Essex House, A Westin Hotel, also earned a Five-Star Award in the restaurant category. Ducasse, the only new five-star winner this year, joins 38 other restaurants, hotels, resorts and inns (out of 22,000 rated) that already covet the title including Mary Elaine`s at The Phoenician which has earned this distinction three years in a row.
Starwood has the enviable distinction of having one of the only three hotels in New York City designated as a Mobil five-star hotel. Located in the heart of midtown Manhattan at East 55th Street and Fifth Avenue, The St. Regis was built in 1904 by Colonel John Jacob Astor and is a landmark building in the classic Beaux Arts tradition. Both the hotel and its signature restaurant, Lespinasse, have been bestowed with many awards in the past, including the Triple A Five Diamond Award as well as the Mobil Five-Star Award.

The Phoenician and its fine-dining restaurant, Mary Elaine`s, are also recipients of this year`s Mobil Five-Star Awards and are the only establishments in Arizona to earn the coveted ranking for 2002. The 250-acre luxury resort is one of only four properties in the United States to earn double Five-Star ratings for both accommodations and dining.

The Mobil Travel Guide ratings committee - an independent network of national culinary and hospitality experts, which evaluate lodgings and restaurants from the traveler`s or diner`s point of view - selects the Five-Star winners.
