Rui Manuel Oliveira, New Vice President Of Sol Melia’s Americas Division

Rui Manuel Oliveira has been named as the new Vice President of the Americas Division of the Spanish hotel management company Sol Meliá. Oliveira replaces Evagrio Sánchez who has been named Chief Executive Officer of Meliá Inversiones Americanas (MIA or Meliá American Investments).


The new Vice President of the Americas Division was born in Espinho-Porto in Portugal in 1951 and graduated in Business Administration and Management from the University of Sao Paulo. He also received postgraduate qualifications in Hotel Management from Cornell University in the USA and successfully completed the Hotel Management programme at the Holiday Inn University.


Rui Manuel Oliveira has more than 30 years’ experience in the hospitality industry. He has been the General Manager of the Nikkey Palace, Transamérica and Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza hotels in Sao Paulo, amongst others.


From 1988 until 1996, Oliveira was Vice President for North American, Latin American and Caribbean Operations for Westin Hotels and Resorts and Caesar Park Hotels International.


He began work for Sol Meliá in 1996, becoming General Manager of the Meliá Sao Paulo Hotel and WTC Convention Center.

Amongst the objectives assumed by Oliveira in his new position is the consolidation of Sol Meliá‘s position as the leading hotel management company in the Spanish speaking world.


Oliveira and his team will be working on an ambitious growth and development programme throughout the continent to form alliances with the region’s finest hotels through management and franchise agreements and joint ventures with local companies.


Sol Meliá currently offers 224 hotels in 24 countries, 48 of these hotels in Latin America.
