J. Alan Coughtrie Joins Marriott International As Senior Vice President, Global Strategic Financing

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) has named J. Alan Coughtrie senior vice president, global strategic financing for Europe, effective immediately. Based in London, Mr. Coughtrie will report to Arne M. Sorenson, executive vice president and chief financial officer.


In this new position within Marriott`s Global Finance team, Mr. Coughtrie will assume the leadership for Marriott`s relationships with debt and equity sources and will be responsible for their scope and direction. Specifically, he will focus on multi-unit growth vehicles in the European market. Mr. Coughtrie`s new role further expands Marriott International`s accelerating growth profile in Europe. Since 1991, Marriott International-managed and franchised hotels in Europe have grown from 12 to 144.

Mr. Coughtrie, an investment banker, spent four years at Lazard Brothers before joining Salomon Brothers where he became head of European Mergers & Acquisitions in London. Mr. Coughtrie subsequently joined UBS where he specialized in private equity transactions. During his career in banking, Mr. Coughtrie has completed a number of assignments in the hotel sector and has acquired significant expertise in debt and equity finance.

A member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Mr. Coughtrie holds a bachelor of accountancy degree from Glasgow University.
