Marriott On Fortune`s New List Of “Most Admired Companies

Fortune Magazine, in its 1999 list of the most admired companies in America, has named Marriott International (MAR/NYSE) as second in the industry category, “Hotels, Casinos, and Resorts.” Marriott ranked first in its industry for three criteria: “Social Responsibility,” “Investment Value,” and “Financial Soundness.” In addition, among companies involved solely in the hospitality business, Marriott International ranked first for the third consecutive year.

Earlier this year, Fortune also named Marriott International to its list of the “100 Best Companies to Work for in America.” Marriott placed in the top 50 on this list and was one of only two hospitality companies to appear on both the 1998 and 1999 “100 Best” surveys.

In 1998, Fortune also named Marriott as one of the top five companies on its list of “The 50 Best Companies” to provide opportunities for African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asian-Americans.

Arne Sorenson, Marriott International`s executive vice president and chief financial officer, said, “Our goal is to deliver premium value to our customers, shareholders, and business partners, serve our communities, and provide rewarding career opportunities for our associates.”
