Robert W. Olesen serves as brand vice president for Renaissance Hotel Group, comprising the Renaissance, New World and Ramada International hotel brands.
Olesen is responsible for the three Renaissance Hotel Group brands worldwide, which represents a total of 150 properties. He is spearheading a development plan calling for an additional 150 hotels over the next five years. Olesen`s knowledge of the Renaissance properties and his extensive management background make him well-suited for this position.
Olesen joined Renaissance in 1985. His professional accomplishments include working closely on the sale of what was then Ramada Inc. to New World Development Ltd. of Hong Kong in 1989. Following the sale, he joined New World as chief financial officer of Ramada at the Hong Kong corporate office.
He was instrumental in setting New World`s growth strategy, and leading the acquisition of the Stouffer Hotels and Resorts chain from Nestle in 1993. In 1995, Olesen headed the restructuring of Ramada which resulted in the creation of Renaissance Hotel Group, N.V. and the subsequent public offering of Renaissance. Renaissance Hotel Group was acquired by Marriott in March 1997.
A native of Iowa, he holds a master`s degree in Business Administration from Arizona State University. He resides in Oakton, Va. with his wife Tricia and two children.
