Pointe South Mountain Resort Garners 2001 Successful Meetings Award

The Pointe South Mountain Resort has been selected by readers of Successful Meetings magazine as a “2001 Pinnacle Award” winner, a mark of excellence in the meetings industry. In its 17th year of the awards program, this New York-based publication will announce all 244 winners in its August Pinnacle Awards Directory.
The Pinnacle Award recognizes the outstanding properties throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, selected through balloting of 75,000 Successful Meetings subscribers in the January issue. These readers were asked to cast their votes on seven important criteria: overall service, meeting rooms and equipment, recreational facilities, quality of food and beverage, exhibit space, accessibility and social conscience. Moreover, the honor symbolizes consistent excellence in the lodging industry and is considered by professional meeting planners to be the “pinnacle” of meeting standards.

The Pointe South Mountain (newly managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts) has embarked on an aggressive master plan of physical improvements to reposition the resort as an independent, more upscale property. The first to be unveiled was the Paseo in November of 2000, a multi-million dollar outdoor event venue and public promenade; the second is the resort’s current $8 million redesign of its 640 guest suites scheduled for completion this September, as well as a new water garden to be unveiled Memorial Day weekend 2002.

Ranging from formal galas to casual outdoor settings, the Pointe South Mountain Resort’s meeting facilities can accommodate groups of 1,200 guests or more in the Grande Ballroom or the Exhibit Pavilion. In addition, the resort boasts more than 27 boardrooms and breakout rooms throughout the property. Outdoor function space includes gardens and terraces adjacent to the ballrooms for nearly unlimited possibilities. The new Paseo, featuring garden pathways, trellis areas, fountains and botanical collections, also provides a unique setting for meeting planners.

Located at 7777 South Pointe Parkway, the Pointe South Mountain Resort is a 300-acre, all-suite destination resort at the base of the landmark South Mountain. The Pointe South Mountain is a destination resort with 18 holes of championship golf, four themed restaurants, a 38,000 square foot fitness center and spa, 10 tennis courts and more than 95,000 square feet of meeting and function space, including a 20,000 square-foot ballroom and a 20,000 square-foot outdoor exhibit pavilion.
