Silver Spring, MD (January 23, 2002) - Paralleling the nationwide trend toward the increased prominence of e-commerce as a way of conducting business, ChoiceBuys.com, the award winning e-procurement system developed by Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH), realized $5 million in purchases in 2001 - up from $700,000 in 2000.
According to Brad Douglas, Choice`s vice president, strategic partnerships, more than 85 percent of Choice franchisees are registered users of the site. “More than 2,800 Choice franchisees are now using the system to purchase over 250,000 products available through the site,” he said. Additionally, said Douglas, general managers of non-Choice brand hotels are accessing ChoiceBuys.com through their affiliation with management companies, generating nearly $200,000 in purchases via the site.
The average online purchase made through ChoiceBuys.com also increased by more than fifty percent, Douglas said.
According to Douglas, ease of usage, volume of product offerings, and significant field support from Choice combine to account for the surge in purchases made through ChoiceBuys.com. “Several user-friendly enhancements were made to the site in 2000,” he said. For instance, buyers through ChoiceBuys.com are now able to establish personalized shopping lists, making it easier to purchase the same items week after week, and the search function has been simplified, enabling users to quickly survey all products in a category.
“Our partner services field staff has also been instrumental in raising awareness of the advantages of ChoiceBuys.com among our franchisees,” Douglas said. In particular, Choice has worked with multi-unit management companies to demonstrate the significant savings represented by ChoiceBuys.com - resulting in decisions by companies such as Sandlewood Hotels, Inc., Dora Brothers, Petro Investments, Hotel Managers Group, Charsan & Mane, and Vanjaria Enterprises to use ChoiceBuys.com as their primary purchasing tool for everyday items as well as capital expenditures.
In 2002, Douglas said, the company plans to build on ChoiceBuys.com`s momentum. “We`ve recently signed with Comergent Technologies to build the next version of ChoiceBuys.com, with Deloitte Consulting acting as the leading consultant for the development and deployment of this new version,” he said. “Our aim is to enhance ChoiceBuys.com so its users realize even greater efficiencies and cost savings.”
The new version of ChoiceBuys.com will launch at the company`s annual convention, May 8-10, Atlanta.
