Choice Reorganizes Strengthens Asia-Pacific Focus

SILVER SPRING, Md. (July 10, 2000) - Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH), one of the world`s largest hotel franchisors, announced the reorganization of its Asia-Pacific group, realigning key positions in major markets to significantly strengthen its partnerships in Australia, India and Japan.

“This new structure will achieve more synergies in marketing services and franchise services, where our partners and branded hotels will benefit most.” said Bruno Geny, senior vice president-international for Choice. “Our team of industry veterans will spearhead these efforts.”

Ian McDonald, director of sales Asia-Pacific, will continue building a strong regional sales team and developing relationships that deliver room-nights to franchisees. His career has included positions with British Airways and Hyatt Hotels.

Barry Robinson, director of franchise services Asia-Pacific, will take on a wider role in the management of the region. He will lead all franchise services activities including awards, quality assurance reviews, training, new property application and opening as well as all operational support regarding procurement systems and ChoiceLink. Robinson will also lead Choice`s development efforts in key south Asian cities and Japan. He has extensive experience in hotel operations and Choice systems, both as a franchisee while working for CDL Hotels New Zealand Ltd. and as a Choice associate during the last two years.

McDonald and Robinson are based in Singapore.


Following a very successful year in 1999,Bruce McKenzie, Choice Hotels Asia-Pacific vice president, resigned effective August 1, 2000. McKenzie has accepted a senior executive position with the hotel division of a large publicly listed property development and asset management group in Australia, his native country.

Choice franchises 483 hotels representing almost 28,000 rooms open under the Clarion, Quality, Comfort, Sleep and Flag brands in the Asia-Pacific region including Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Indonesia and India.
