Nicklaus Golf Course To Open At Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa, Jupiter

JUPITER, Fla., October 17, 2002 - Announced today, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa, Jupiter is slated for Member play on November 1. This 18-hole, private golf course is the first Ritz-Carlton course designed by golf great, Jack Nicklaus.

Located in prestigious Jupiter in northern Palm Beach County, the course is the centerpiece of the first residential golf community developed by The Ritz-Carlton, a company renowned for extraordinary service and elegant design. The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa is a 285-acre gated enclave with three distinctive home ownership options, a world-class Ritz-Carlton spa and the Nicklaus-designed course.
“We are creating a premier residential golf environment, enhanced with the legendary services of The Ritz-Carlton,” said Simon F. Cooper, president and COO, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C. “We are confident the Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course will meet Members’ expectations in every way.”

An Unprecedented Course, Challenging Play
Nicklaus, who has been named “Golfer of the Century” or “Golfer of the Millennium” by almost every major golf publication in the world, earned his legendary status with 100 professional tournament victories worldwide and a record 20 major-championship titles. His legacy as a player can be rivaled only by the legacy he is leaving as a golf course designer.
An honorary Club Member, the “Golden Bear” lives just minutes from The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club & Spa. Nestled in the natural beauty of its surroundings and offering golfers a 7,224-yard challenge catering to strategic play, the course includes a 10-acre Learning Center featuring seven target greens, as well as private tee and putting areas.

“From the first time I saw this piece of property, I knew it had great potential and I believe our design team has met that potential,” said Nicklaus. “When you combine the course with the service and quality standards associated with The Ritz-Carlton, you have a very special golf experience.”
The course offers many outstanding design features, including:
* Superior drainage of the fairway areas, as a result of a six-inch sand cap designed to extend length of play during or following heavy periods of rain.
* Fairways and tees are cut at the height of ? of an inch. This technique allows the ball to sit higher on the turf providing more ball contact and greater spin for better players.
* Sod-wrapped bunker faces - a first for Nicklaus Design - create a unique look and playability.
* Champion Bermuda grass, a relatively new grass that allows for truer putts due to less grain and the only course on Florida’s East Coast currently using it.
* Four sets of tees, offering an enjoyable, yet challenging course to golfers of all levels.
