Choice Announces Record Reservations Sales

Worldwide lodging franchisor Choice Hotels International (NYSE:CHH) today reported record year-to-date sales through its reservation system of $611.4 million, a 15.4 percent increase over 1997 sales of $529.9 million.
The company also said it had broken records for single-month and single-day sales.  Revenue generated through the reservations system during June totaled $124.8 million, surpassing the previous record set last July of $121.7 million.  Choice hit its all-time-high sales day on June 22, with $5,561,729 in revenue.

Don Dempsey, Choice executive vice president & chief financial officer, said the company also surpassed its record for single-day sales of $5 million or more.  Through June 30, the reservations system had generated eight $5 million days, four times as many recorded during the same period last year, and one more than achieved during all of 1997.

June also was the first month in the company`s history that daily sales averaged more than $4 million through the reservations system, he said.

“As we enter the traditionally strong Independence Day holiday weekend, there is every indication that summer travel may reach new records,” Dempsey said.  “With leisure and business bookings at an all-time high, this could be the best summer ever for Choice.”
