Spain Beckons Middle East Travellers

Cairo, Egypt, 2002: The major £22 million renovation programme of the five star Castellana Inter-Continental Madrid, is in its final stages in preparation for re-launch in September.

The extensive project, begun in January 2001, has completely transformed the hotel establishing it as the most prestigious property in the heart of the Spanish capital. Meeting the increasing demands of both the business and leisure traveller, the hotel will offer stylish and luxurious accommodation, combined with state-of-the-art facilities and first-rate service.

All 307 guest rooms have been elegantly re-designed and refurbished. These are made up of 138 standard, 45 superior, 93 club, 25 suites, three presidential suites and three royal suites. Seventy of the hotel’s rooms have terraces overlooking gardens or the Paseo de la Castellana.

On the new Club Inter-Continental floor, with a dedicated reception area, guests will be able to enjoy a welcome cocktail in the Club lounge before retreating to any one of the 93 Club rooms offering complimentary continental breakfast, as well as an unpacking, ironing and shoe-shining service.

State-of-the-art in-room facilities for business travellers include room safes large enough to fit laptops and equipped with sockets for their re-charging. ISDN lines have been installed allowing high speed Internet access and windows are now fully sound-proof.


Business needs are catered for by 13 meeting rooms, all offering impressive up to the minute technology. The newest addition is the Villahermosa room. With a capacity for 130 delegates, the Villahermosa room also features its own private terrace overlooking the hotel’s landscaped gardens. Renovations further include a newly equipped fitness centre, with a sauna and solarium terrace and Bar 49, a stylish new bar offering cocktails, snacks and tapas, located within the lobby dome.

The property had remained open for business throughout the renovation programme.
