Marriott Open Second Resort in Spain

WASHINGTON, D.C. - July 9, 2002 - Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) expects to open the Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort & Spa this October. When opened, it will be the company’s second full-service resort in Spain. It is owned by Pepe Bano, a local businessman.

Located on the Gulf of Valencia coast amidst orange groves, the 186-room Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort & Spa is situated in the peaceful residential area of La Sella near Denia. The resort is a one-hour drive from the international airports of Valencia in the North and Alicante to the South, as well as a four-hour drive from both Barcelona and Madrid. Marriott Vacation Club International, the company’s vacation ownership division, also offers 166 apartments at the resort, which allows owners to share in the same amenities and activities as hotel guests.

Special opening rates begin at Euro 99 for a one-night stay. The offer ends April 12, 2003.

For recreation, the resort offers an 18-hole golf course at the base of Montgo Mountain with plans to add nine more holes. Golfers can also choose from 15 public golf courses within a two hour drive of the resort. For those looking to revitalize, the hotel has a 1,200-square-meter spa, designed by Alan Wheway, the founder of Champney’s Health Club in England. The spa features various saunas, a whirpool, a winter garden and several treatment rooms. Guests can also enjoy a casino, an outdoor swimming pool and a children’s pool.

Other amenities include complimentary transfer service to the Beach Club, which is located 10 minutes away on the sandy beaches of Denia. There, guests can bask in the same high levels of service with sun beds, beach towels and a beach bar.

The golf clubhouse features a tapas restaurant, where guests can dine on the terrace with a view of the first tee.

For meetings and events, in addition to three meeting rooms, the resort has a large ballroom that can host 750 participants and is also divisible into smaller sections.

In addition, the company is represented in Spain with a second ownership resort, Marriott’s Marbella Beach Resort, which offers 288 apartments on the Costa del Sol.
