Marriott International to Introduce Courtyard Brand in Dominican Republic
WASHINGTON, D.C. - July 1, 2002 - Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) will introduce its moderately priced Courtyard hotel brand in the Dominican Republic under a management agreement with Caribe Hospitality.
Scheduled to open in 2003, the 146-room Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo will be located at the intersection of Avenida Maximo Gomez and Avenida Simon Bolivar in the Gazcue - La Esperilla neighborhood of Santo Domingo. When opened, it will be Marriott International’s second hotel in the city.

Marriott introduced its Courtyard brand in 1983. It is aimed at business and leisure travelers who want consistent, high quality accommodations and services at moderate, affordable prices. Over the years, Courtyard by Marriott hotels have been the leading choice in their category. Services and amenities offered by Courtyard hotels outside the U.S. and Canada vary from country to country, but are appropriate to the needs of guests in the host country.
All Courtyard hotels feature superior quality guestrooms that are usually larger than rooms offered by other hotels in its segment.
The Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo will have a casual restaurant serving three meals daily and a lobby lounge. Other amenities will include a guest library, a sundry/pantry shop, an outdoor swimming pool and small fitness facility. Business center services will be available at the front desk and surface parking will be available.
In-room amenities will include an iron and ironing board, a mini-fridge, coffee maker, two-line phone/dataport/voice mail service and safe.

For small meetings, the Courtyard by Marriott Santo Domingo will have two meeting rooms totaling 1,200 square feet.
There currently are 562 Courtyard by Marriott hotels in operation worldwide: 517 in the U.S., 14 in Germany, 11 in the United Kingdom; seven in China; six in Canada; three in Australia; two each in Austria and France and one each in Mexico and Costa Rica.
Opening later this year are Courtyard by Marriott hotels in Tbilisi, the Republic of Georgia; Lake Burnaby, Canada; Lake Louise, Canada; Toronto/Markham, and Toronto/Vaughan . Next year, the first Courtyard hotel will open in Kuwait City, Kuwait and in 2004, a 190-room Courtyard will open in Brussels.
