Awards will be presented for the top electronic marketing by individual hotels in three regions: The Americas, Europe/Middle East/Africa and Asia/Pacific. In addition, there will be an award for the top Chain/Brand eMarketer worldwide. One of these four category winners will be named the overall eMarketer of the Year at the HSMAI International Travel Awards Night Gala on Jan. 28, 2003.
“To host a truly all-encompassing awards competition and celebration dinner, we must embrace and recognize the tremendous efforts and creativity in the realm of eMarketing,” said Robert A. Gilbert, CHME, CHA, president and CEO of HSMAI. “With the eMarketer of the Year Awards we have a great opportunity to showcase successful initiatives that will both acknowledge those initiatives as well as set examples for others to follow.”
Among the criteria used to award eMarketer of the Year are statistics on the growth of bookings generated from the website and qualitative information concerning electronic marketing strategies.
The eMarketer award winners will be selected based on a combination of their excellence in both GDS and website e-commerce.
p>“Over 18 billion dollars in revenues were generated worldwide in 2002 for hotel rooms booked electronically,” said Bruce W. Mainzer, senior vice president - marketing for TravelCLICK. “It is clear that successful e-marketing goes well beyond selling distressed inventory on discount websites and that savvy hoteliers are finding that they must approach the GDS and Internet channels strategically to maximize their revenue performance.
