Golfer’s Dream Package Up for Bid in Northwest Airlines’ First Online Auction

Minneapolis/St. Paul - (June 15, 1999) - Northwest Airlines today announced that bidding is open for its first online auction in which frequent flyers can use WorldPerks miles as currency to bid for a trip for two to this year’s Ryder Cup golf tournament. Auction proceeds will benefit Northwest Airlines’ KidCares program, which enables children to fly free and access medical care not available in their hometown.

The auction will occur from June 15th to June 30, 1999 on the Northwest Airlines web site at Bidding begins at 150,000 miles. Auction participants can purchase WorldPerks miles for bidding at a cost of three cents per mile.
“We’re extremely excited about Northwest Airlines’ first on-line auction,” said Susan Edberg, managing director WorldPerks and international advertising. “It’s an innovative way for WorldPerks members to put their frequent flyer miles to work for a great cause and a great reward.”

The online auction’s highest bidder will win a trip for two to the Ryder Cup golf tournament, which will be September 21-26, 1999 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. The prestigious Ryder Cup annually features competition between top golfers from the United States and Europe. The package will include roundtrip airfare, five nights accommodations, all meals, ground transportation, two rounds of golf, tickets to the Ryder Cup and a souvenir gift bag.
