Travelink Launches Viewdata on New Version of System

19th Nov 2002

Travelink, the UK`s leading supplier of browser-based tour operating systems, is launching a new version of its system in a bid to win the industry`s summer sun operators.

The company has introduced a dramatically enhanced version of its browser-based system and has incorporated viewdata to meet the distribution needs of the top package holiday operators.

Travelink has signed up a new client every three weeks during 2002, and the addition of the viewdata, the industry`s leading distribution channel for package holidays, is intended to ensure further rapid growth beyond the company`s existing marketplace of over 50 specialist and tailor-made operators.

The company has also targeted top players by introducing new functionality for resort offices, providing operators` overseas locations with instant online access to detailed reports about arriving holidaymakers.

Travelink is built on the latest browser-based technology, meaning every customer workstation both at head office and overseas can access the system through a web interface, with everyone from in-house reservations staff to resort offices all experiencing the same look and feel.

Other features of the upgraded system include enhanced GDS connections, the ability to add graphics to itineraries, automatic emailing to travel providers, and complex pricing matrices.

Said Travelink`s sales director Howard Frost: “We`ve made the decision to add viewdata to meet the needs of the industry`s leading summer sun operators, and believe that our rate of growth will be sustained because of our decision.

“People complain viewdata has passed its sell-by date, but it`s still the industry`s accepted reservations environment for package holiday sales, and we knew that for Travelink to win customers in the summer sun market would require us to add this distribution channel.”

Travelink`s existing features include the ability for operators to sell on the web, at a fraction of the cost of developing an individual internet presence. The system also includes graphically rich point-and-click technology creating a productivity-maximising environment for tour operators` sales departments and call centres.

Over 50 companies use Travelink including Elegant Resorts, Barwell Leisure and Ski Solutions with installations running the system on up to 250 workstations.
