Virgin Holidays has signed an agreement to implement a new IT infrastructure and supply 300 new Compaq desktop computers to its Crawley HQ. The solution will increase network performance and data storage capacity to significantly improve business productivity and customer service levels.
The contract was handed to IT solutions provider Sol-Tec after a competitive pitch against Dell, as Virgin Holidays believed it could provide more tailored IT support. Virgin Holidays has also taken advantage of Sol-Tec`s specialist provision of bespoke leasing and buy-back options for SMEs ensuring a cost-effective purchase with guaranteed ROI.
Robin Fitton, IT manager at Virgin Holidays, commented: “We needed improvements to our network and data storage infrastructure, as faster access to information ensures higher productivity thereby improving customer service. I also believe that having a new, fast desktop, particularly a stylish silver and black one, boosts staff morale. The flat screens also give us both office and external environmental advantages, by saving on desk space and using less electricity.”
Virgin Holidays will also be using Oxygen and Pathway, some of Sol-Tec`s bespoke web applications, to help it manage its IT infrastructure more effectively. Pathway uses a traffic-light warning system that automates the process of managing support contracts, as well as hardware and software licensing. Virgin recognised that the user-friendly web service will allow the IT department to quickly log and rectify faults, as well as more tightly manage maintenance requirements, thus improving user service levels.
“From my previous experiences with other suppliers, Sol-Tec offered a better level of service with faster response times. Sol-Tec has excellent technical knowledge and we have consistent contact with the same team, if we need to resolve a query,” concluded Fitton.
Sol-Tec has been working with the Virgin Group since 1998 and with Virgin Holidays since 1999. The solutions provider is Virgin Holiday`s preferred supplier for many reasons, including high levels of pre- and post-sales services and competitive pricing. Sol-Tec has worked on a number of projects for the Virgin group including centralised storage, and Oxygen, a helpdesk application.
