, the leading provider of Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless and wired high-speed Internet access in 10 airports and more than 475 hotels, will open two Laptop Lane airport business centers at Oakland International Airport
(OAK). More than 11 million passengers travel through the airport annually.
“In today`s world, travelers need access to the Internet during every step of their trip,” said Steven Grossman, director of aviation for the Port of Oakland, the owner/operator of Oakland International Airport. “And our decision to select Wayport as our partner here at Oakland International was made easy because of its successful track record in delivering high-speed Internet access and managing on-site Laptop Lane airport business centers across the nation.”
The two Laptop Lane airport business centers “Powered by Wayport” will offer travelers private workstations with wired high-speed and dial-up Internet connections for notebook computers; desktop computers with high-speed Internet access and business software; phones with unlimited domestic long distance and conference-calling capability; and printers, copiers and fax machines. In addition, travelers can ship packages and purchase accessories for notebook computers and handheld devices, all with the help of knowledgeable on-site staff.
Wayport also will install Wi-Fi at the Laptop Lanes to cover the business center and surrounding gate areas, offering travelers the flexibility to connect wirelessly to high-speed Net. Wayport also will assist Oakland International Airport in providing connection data, tracking and reporting unauthorized wireless services and helping to determine its neutral host strategy for Wi-Fi throughout the airport.
“Wayport`s expansion into Oakland International Airport through Laptop Lane airport business centers is a great benefit to travelers who need a reliable and convenient Wi-Fi wireless or wired high-speed Internet connection on their notebook computers,” said Kurt Sehnert, director of infrastructure programs for Intel. “Wayport`s growing hot spot service is a great complement to Intel`s strategy of enabling enhanced mobility and integrated Wi-Fi with our next-generation Mobile Platforms code-named Banias.”
The Laptop Lane airport business centers are located in Terminal 1, near gate 8A, and in Terminal 2, near Gate 20, and are scheduled to open by early November. The addition of these two brings the total number of Laptop Lane airport business centers “Powered by Wayport” to 15.
