Worldspan`s John Charlesworth Elected to OTA Board of Directors

, has been elected to the OpenTravel Alliance (OTA) Board of Directors. The non- profit organization is made up of representatives from throughout the travel industry working to create and implement industry-wide open e-business specifications using XML, a common language for Internet-based data exchange.
As a member of the OTA
board, Charlesworth will help provide leadership to encourage the development and use of open XML-based specifications for electronic communication between and among travelers and travel related businesses and suppliers.


“With 20 years` experience in the travel industry, John Charlesworth understands not only travel technology but also how to transform requirements and ideas into appropriate solutions-skills that serve him well in his important work with the OpenTravel Alliance,” commented Sue Powers, senior vice president—Worldwide Product Solutions for Worldspan. “Worldspan has long been in the vanguard of XML development to support our e-commerce initiatives, and we are proud that John is continuing this tradition of innovation with his service in OTA.”


As director of Product Engineering at Worldspan, Charlesworth is responsible for the technology strategy, architecture and the implementation of the company`s global e-commerce products. In this role he is significantly involved in extending data sources beyond traditional technology to include additional Internet sources.
