Worldspan today announced the
appointment of John James to the position of vice president—Corporate
E-Commerce Solutions within the company`s Worldwide Travel Distribution
In this position, James is responsible for the company`s corporate
e-commerce strategy globally, including marketing Worldspan Trip Manager(R),
the company`s industry-leading online travel management solution, in the
United States and in selected strategic markets outside the United States.
The announcement comes at the opening of the National Business Travel
Association (NBTA) 34th Annual Convention and Exposition, taking place July
14-17 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
James` new responsibilities include creating strategic business
partnerships and overseeing business development, account management, and
marketing teams focused on delivering Worldspan`s corporate travel management
products and services worldwide. He reports to Mike Parks, senior vice
president and general manager—Worldwide Travel Distribution for Worldspan.
“Maintaining and enhancing our leadership position in travel e-commerce is
central to Worldspan`s overall success. With his broad experience in
e-commerce business development and marketing strategies, John James has
played and will continue to play a key role in keeping Worldspan on top in the
e-commerce arena,” commented Parks in announcing James` promotion. “John
brings the right combination of marketplace expertise and leadership qualities
needed to take Worldspan`s corporate e-commerce business to the next level,
continuing our emphasis on providing `best of class` service and support for
James joined Worldspan in February 2001, serving first as director -
E-Commerce Business Development for the Americas, responsible for developing
Worldspan`s e-commerce business in the United States and Latin America.
Later, he and his group expanded their focus to the worldwide e-commerce
James came to Worldspan
from XTRA On-Line Corporation (XOL), a developer
of Internet-based corporate booking and travel management solutions. As vice
president of worldwide marketing, he was responsible for the company`s
strategic and product marketing and directed marketing activities for XOL`s
PowerTrip booking solution. In addition, James and his team guided marketing
initiatives from concept to launch for the company`s MyTrip booking product.
Previously, James held management positions with Sabre, marketing the
company`s online corporate booking tool, and with SkyTel, a mobile
James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from
Tennessee Technological University and an MBA from the University of North
