SAA Scoops Prestigious International Wine Award


South African Airways (SAA) offers outstanding on-board products as confirmed again by a a prestigious award for our wines served in Business Class.


The Lievland DVB 1998 that the airline serves in Business Class on international routes walked off as winner of the Best Red Wine at the annual Business Traveler magazine wine competition in New York. Rooderust Pinotage 1999, the second red wine entered, also came fifth in this category.

SAA took fourth place in the category Best Cellar in the Sky-International class. This category in the competition is the measure of the overall onboard product an airline provides. SAA provided the judges our full wine list, consisting only of South African wines.
The competition run by the prestigious American magazine Business Traveler, is open to all airlines that serve wines in their Business Class.
For the past fourteen years a Business Traveler panel of professional wine tasters have judged international long haul Business Class wines.
Only two red and white wines as well as one champagne can be entered with the current printed Business Class wine list.

The four categories of the 2002 competition were:

Best International Business Class red wine

Best International Business Class white wine

Best International Business Class champagne

Best Cellar in the Sky-International Business Class

SAA is at present busy with preparations for the selection process for the 2003 wines which will take place from 26 -28th of August 2002 for on board listing from January to December 2003.
