US Air Fares Hike Fails Again

5th Jun 2002

The latest attempt by US airlines to raise leisure fares has failed. Four carriers have quickly backed off last week`s USD$20 hike when other operators failed to follow suit.

The raise, on advance purchase leisure tickets, was initiated by Continental Airlines. Delta, American Airlines and Frontier also lifted their prices but have now changed their decision.

Persistent efforts this year by Continental to increase fares have met with the same fate on each occasion as competitors have refused to join in the moves.
