New Belgian Carrier to Fly Transatlantic Routes

Belgium is set to regain a flag air carrier offering transatlantic routes with the tentative mid-May debut of new player VG Airlines.

Flying three leased Airbus A330-200 wide-body jets crewed by former staff of bankrupt Belgian carrier Sabena, VG Airlines—named after founder and airline industry veteran Freddy van Gaever—will offer daily nonstop service from Brussels to both New York`s Kennedy and Boston.

Flights to Los Angeles also are planned, according to van Gaever.

Service to the U.S. is dependent on the receipt of operating rights from the Transportation Department, still pending.
Once launched, flights on VG Airlines will be bookable through the carrier`s Belgian call center at (011) 32-3-303-0000 or [email protected], and—eventually—via both GDS and its own Internet site at www.vgair.be, said a representative.
Travel agent commission levels have not been determined.
