New Flight from AmericanConnection

23rd Jan 2004

American Airlines is pleased to announce that AmericanConnection carrier
TransStates Airlines, Inc. will increase service from Springfield`s
Capital Airport to St. Louis` Lambert International Airport in March.

“When we first announced that we were changing the size of our St. Louis
hub, our AmericanConnection carrier had planned to fly three round-trips a
day from Springfield to St. Louis,” said Dan Garton, American`s executive
vice president - Marketing. “We were able to add a fourth flight in
November and I`m pleased to announce that in March AmericanConnection will
offer five departures between Springfield and St. Louis each week day.

“Our thanks go to Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin for his understanding and
support for our efforts to ensure that our St. Louis hub remains
profitable,” Garton added. “The newest flight comes after our
mid-continent hub had its second consecutive month of favorable
performance numbers as the result of a November hub restructuring.”

In order to make connections easier and travel more convenient for
customers, American continues with preparations to consolidate all jet
operations in the C Concourse at Lambert International Airport by mid-
February. American, which now operates from 11 gates in the north side of
C Concourse, will be joined there in mid-February by American Eagle and
AmericanConnection. Today, they operate from 10 gates in the D Concourse.

Additionally, at Lambert Airport it is no longer necessary for customers
to carry their checked bags to Transportation Security Administration
screeners. A change in the baggage check-in procedure that was introduced
in December at St. Louis, allows customer to checkin at the curb or at one
of the AA Self-Service Check-In(R) machines and drop off their checked
bags with American personnel before proceeding directly to the security
