America West Announces Cell Phone Policy

PRNewswire-FirstCall PHOENIX Dec. 1 :

America West Airlines announced today that, effective immediately,
customers may use their cellular telephones after landing while the
aircraft is taxiing to the gate. A flight attendant will make an
announcement informing passengers when it is safe to use their cell phones.

“We`re pleased to offer our customers this service enhancement. This is
yet another indication of America West`s commitment to being the business-
friendly airline,” said Anthony Mule, senior vice president, customer
service. “We want to thank our employees who conducted significant testing
and secured government approval in order to give our customers this added
convenience.”

Prior to takeoff, customers may use their cellular telephones only when
the cabin door is open or with permission from the captain during a
departure delay. Cell phones may not be used as the aircraft taxis prior
to takeoff. All other existing policies regarding use of electronic
devices are still effective.

Founded in 1983 and proudly celebrating its 20-year anniversary in 2003,
America West Airlines is the nation`s second largest low-fare airline and
the only carrier formed since deregulation to achieve major airline
status. America West`s 13,000 employees serve nearly 55,000 customers a
day in 93 destinations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Costa Rica.
