America West Airlines announced today that many of its flights to and from
southern California are being impacted by wildfires in the area. Smoke
from those wildfires has forced the southern California TRACON (Terminal
Radar Approach Control Center) to be evacuated. The Federal Aviation
Administration has mandated strict control of air traffic into and out of
southern California. As a result, airlines operating out of the following
airports are being impacted. Most America West and America West Express
flights will either be cancelled or experience extensive delays. The
affected airports are Los Angeles International, Burbank, Orange County,
San Diego, Ontario and Long Beach.
The airline recommends that customers check the status of their flight at
americawest.com before leaving for the airport. Customers may also dial
1-800- 2-FLY-AWA (1-800-235-9292) to check on the status of their flights.
The impact of this situation could continue into Monday, Oct. 27, so
customers traveling tomorrow are also advised to check on their flights
before leaving for the airport.
