Phoenix Becomes a Major Gateway

On Monday, America West Airlines launches another first: the only daily
nonstop roundtrip service between its Phoenix hub and Monterrey, Mexico.

Monterrey, in the state of Nuevo Leon, is Mexico`s third largest city. The
development of direct air service to Monterrey serves as an important
economic development initiative for Phoenix, positioning Sky Harbor
International Airport as an international gateway to the western United
To mark the start of the new route, a trade and protocol mission will
coincide with this inaugural flight. Officials representing the City of
Phoenix, the State of Arizona, America West Airlines, the Arizona-Mexico
Commission and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council will participate in
this effort to promote business relationships, expand trade ties and
strengthen government relations between Phoenix and Monterrey.

A news conference at Sky Harbor will kick-off the new air service to
Monterrey. A second news conference, upon arrival, will include government
officials from the state of Nuevo Leon.
