Sun Country Airlines Announces Growth

Sun Country Airlines today announced dramatic year-to-year growth as well as an exciting and unique partnership with Mall of America. During a press conference at Mall of America, T. Jay Salmen, Sun Country`s President and CEO, reported the year to date comparisons from 2002 to 2003, showing an increase in number of passengers of 245%.
“We are thrilled to show such growth in the midst of an era in the airline industry that finds virtually every major carrier facing uncertainty,” said Salmen. “Because of the hard work and dedication of our employees, Sun Country is beginning to build a loyal customer following.”
Sun Country`s load factor is up 21% since last year and cities served have jumped from 13 to 27. Based on current load factors, Sun Country will rank among the top five carriers at MSP in 2003 and 2004, compared to #11 in 2002. In addition, Sun Country will add 4 planes in the next 4 months and an additional 2 next summer.
Sun Country is following a conservative growth plan which will increase frequency to its popular destinations such as Phoenix, Dallas, Los Angeles, Denver, Las Vegas, Fort Myers and Orlando.
“Sun Country has been able to maintain a competitive low cost structure similar to industry leaders Jet Blue and Southwest Airlines. By maintaining this low cost structure we are able to provide consistently low fare prices and a high quality of customer service and friendliness,” said Salmen.
Salmen went on to announce a unique and exciting partnership with Mall of America. “Mall of America is one of this nation`s preeminent destinations and we are proud to announce this partnership.” The partnership will give exposure to Sun Country within Mall of America and provide new travel choices and experiences for Mall of America guests.
The kick off event of the promotional partnership will be “Exceptional Evenings”, the first of a series of monthly events, sponsored by Sun Country, aimed at female shoppers. The first event in the series will be a shopping trip to Las Vegas, courtesy of Sun Country. Other promotional events will include “Experience Mexico” and the annual Hormel Hunger Walk.
Sun Country will also have a presence at all Mall of America Guest Service locations - including an interactive kiosk at the north entrance where Mall of America shoppers can purchase tickets, check flights or simply pick up vacation brochures.
