Eastern Airways adds Birmingham-Inverness

Eastern Airways is further bolstering its domestic network with the launch
on 26 October of scheduled services between Birmingham and Inverness, the
capital of the Scottish Highlands.  Flights will operate twice daily, Monday
to Friday with Jetstream 32 aircraft.
This is the second route for Eastern from Birmingham, following its take
over of the British Airways CitiExpress service to Newcastle in March this
year.  Birmingham-Inverness has not been operated before and Eastern is
looking forward to working in close partnership with the marketing teams at
Birmingham International and Highlands and Island Airports to make the route
as successful as its Manchester-Inverness service.
Confirming the new Birmingham route at the opening of the Routes 2003
Conference in Edinburgh, Eastern Airways Director Scotland Graeme Ross
noted: “The launch of Birmingham-Inverness in the western isles of Scotland
further bolsters our connections with Scotland, where we have a strong
Eastern Airways has regular flights to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Inverness and
Wick and offers more choice of flights than any other at Aberdeen with nine
domestic routes including Belfast International.
Richard Heard, Managing Director of Birmingham International Airport, said:
“This is great news for passengers travelling between the Midlands and
Scotland. It increases both business and tourism opportunities by providing
a frequent and reliable link between the Highlands and Islands and the heart
of England. I wish Eastern every success with this new venture and hope it
proves to be as popular as its Newcastle service.”
Eastern, based at Humberside Airport, operates a fleet of 29 Jetstream and
Embraer Regional Jet aircraft.  This includes a new 50-seat ERJ which is due
to join the airline in time for the start of its winter schedule at the end
of October.
This winter, Eastern will be offering some 650 flights each week.  The
airline will carry some 550,000 passengers this year on a network embracing
Aberdeen, Belfast International, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh,
Humberside, Inverness, Isle of Man, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted,
Manchester, Southampton, Newcastle, Norwich, Teesside and Wick.  For more
