FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines, the world’s largest carrier, reported a record high monthly load factor for the second month in a row. The carrier’s August load factor of 79.5 percent topped the prior record of 78.3 percent, set in August 2000, and improved 3.9 points compared to last year. The year-over-year gains were achieved in both domestic and international markets, with a load factor increase of 4.6 points in domestic markets and 2.0 points in international markets.
For the month, overall capacity declined 6.5 percent year over year, yet traffic fell by a much smaller 1.7 percent. Domestic traffic was down 3.4 percent on a 9.1 percent capacity reduction. In international markets, August traffic increased 2.7 percent on virtually flat capacity year over year.
