JOHANNESBURG: It’s time to get all jazzed-up again for the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival taking place from the 28th to the 30th of August.
The Standard Bank Arena on the 28th and Market Theatre Precinct in downtown Johannesburg on the last two days will become a laid-back venue exuding musical talent from every corner of the globe, including South Africa’s very own home-grown brilliance.
outh African Airways (SAA) will join in celebrating a kind of sound that is enjoyed by young and old, generation by generation.
This is the third year running that the airline is involved in this revered festival still going strong for almost 30 years.
As in the past, SAA is the official carrier for the Joy of Jazz Festival and one of the very proud sponsors.
Promoting arts and culture in South Africa is one of SAA’s primary concerns. Food for the soul through jazz provides to enrich our country. The arts are just one form of entertainment, which provides people with a good dose of culture.
Jazz musicians are known to care deeply about their music and are proud of what they do. SAA feels the same.

This year, the SAA Turbine Hall set up for the festival will be alive with the sounds of international singing star, Regina Belle, New York jazz group, Spyro Gyra and African sensation, Kapa Dech. Musicians also performing in the SAA Turbine Hall are Jimmy Dludlu, Don Laka and Jonas Gwangwa who will prove that ‘local is lekker’.
The Line-up during the three-day festival are Bheki Mseleku, Oliver Mtukudzi, Donald Harrison, Joe Sample, New York Jazz Band, Sipho Gumede, Kenny Garrett, Alon Oleartchick, Bhudaza & Friends, Absolute Zero, 4 Sure, Angela Bofill, Oupa Makhubele, Triangle Jazz Band, Dintle and Friends, Hunters Jazz Band and Mudo Band.
