ESPN Appoints Malaysia Airlines

Today, ESPN STAR Sport appointed Malaysia Airlines as the official airline for the inaugural FA Premier League (FAPL) Asia Cup tournament, which is scheduled from 24 - 27 July at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil.


The agreement was sealed between Danny Kondic, GM Sales of Malaysia Airlines and Tim Holland, VP Advertising Sales of ESPN STAR Sport at a simple ceremony in the airline’s head office in Kuala Lumpur. Professor Dato’ Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad, Vice President FAM, who is also chairman of the national team committee, was also present.


The deal will see Malaysia Airlines & ESPN STAR Sport working jointly to fly in players, officials and club members from three fan clubs namely Chelsea, Newcastle and Birmingham. The airline’s tour-package arm, Golden Holidays, has also developed special packages to provide pre & post tour arrangement for passengers flying in to cheer the teams.


Speaking at the press conference, Danny Kondic said,” With its excellent sporting facilities and organization skills, Malaysia is fast proving to be the preferred venue for world-class sporting events. We, the national airline, will continue to play a major role in pushing for the materialization of such prestigious events here. We are looking forward to FAPL Asia Cup tournament which is set to heighten Malaysia Airlines’ brand presence when these matches are telecast over the airline’s key markets in UK and Asia.”

The event also marked a significant milestone in the sporting history of Malaysia, as it is the first time that a fully sanctioned English Premier League pre tournament is held in the country.


Malaysia Airlines has supported various much sought- after sporting events such as, Manchester United tour in 2001, World Strongest Man in 2002, Le Tour De Langkawi, Langkawi Regatta 2003, KL Grand Prix 2003 etc.
