Malaysia Launch Kota Kinabalu Service

Malaysia Airlines today launched its scheduled service between Kota Kinabalu and Balikpapan in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.


Effective today, Malaysia Airlines operates twice weekly Boeing 737-400 flights on Fridays and Tuesdays between Kota Kinabalu and Balikpapan.


Flight MH 859 departs Kota Kinabalu at 1400 hours to reach Balikpapan at 1545 hours. The return flight, MH 858, departs Balikpapan the same day at 1630 hours to arrive Kuching at 1810 hours.


Malaysia Airlines’ Senior General Manager (Sales, Distribution and Marketing) Dato’ Ahmad Fuaad Dahlan led a delegation of VIPs comprising Assistant Minister of Industrial Development Sabah, Yang Berhormat Encik Samsu Baharum Abdul Rahman and officials from government agencies, Chambers of Commerce together with representatives of travel agents, tourism related organizations and local media, on the inaugural flight to Balikpapan.


The launch of today’s service is Malaysia Airlines’ second network link with Balikpapan, adding to its twice-weekly Kuching-Balikpapan B737-400 service launched yesterday.

With the addition of Balikpapan to its international network, Malaysia Airlines offers a total capacity of 576 seats (16 Business and 128 Economy class seats per flight) in each direction on its services linking Kuching and Kota Kinabalu with the Indonesian city in East Kalimantan.


Balikpapan is Malaysia Airlines’ 7th Indonesian destination, after Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Denpasar, Pontianak and Tarakan.
