bmi regional is to launch services from East Midlands Airport to Brussels in October, building on the success of its existing Brussels links from Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford.
The airline, the regional arm of bmi, will operate three flights a day on weekdays, one on Saturday, and two on Sundays, using a 49-seat Embraer 145 jet aircraft. The route goes on sale this Friday (4 July) and can be booked at www.flybmi.com or by calling 0870 60 70 555.
The route is currently operated by bmibaby, bmi`s low cost airline, but as a predominantly business destination, there`s a more natural `fit` with bmi regional`s service, which includes a full business class offering. The carrier will offer one additional flight on weekdays and one on Sundays over the current schedule.
Alex Grant, managing director of bmi regional, said: “We are delighted to continue to provide the travellers of the East Midlands with direct links to Brussels. The city is a major business and government destination and we are pleased to build on the success of our well-established services from Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford.
“bmi regional has built its reputation and grown its route network by providing frequent all-jet services to smaller, more predominantly business markets. Brussels as a destination does not have the same leisure and business mix, or passenger volume, as other more traditional low-cost carrier destinations. The economies of scale of the bmi regional operation makes the East Midlands to Brussels service an obvious route for its `niche` style of operation.
“We are committed to providing travellers from the East Midlands to Brussels with a seamless transition and look forward to offering frequent and reliable services, complete with a full business class offering.”
