FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines reported better-than-expected systemwide traffic for May with a system load factor of 73.7 percent, up 4.1 points from a year ago. Systemwide traffic decreased 4.8 percent from May 2002, on a capacity decrease of 10.1 percent. Domestic traffic was down 4.2 percent year over year for May on a capacity decrease of 11.2 percent. International traffic in May was down 6.3 percent year over year on a capacity decrease of 7 percent over May 2002.

American boarded 7.5 million passengers in May, down 7.6 percent from May 2002.
