For the first time, residents of Kaitaia and the surrounding region will have a daily return flight to Auckland. From July 5, Air New Zealand will be providing an additional service between Kaitaia and Auckland on Saturdays.
Currently the airline provides return flights from Sundays to Fridays. The addition of the Saturday service in July means the route will have daily return flights.
The additional service is in response to growing demand on this route. Late last year the airline added more seats when the aircraft used to service the route was increased in size from a 14-seat Bandeirante to a 19-seat Beech 1900D. In November the advent of Express Class, with its lower domestic air fares, also stimulated demand. About 40% more people are now choosing to fly on the Kaitaia route compared with the previous year.
From September 6, Air New Zealand will be providing an additional return service for its Auckland - Taupo route on Saturdays. This service will provide supplementary connections with international flights, particularly for tourists arriving in New Zealand. The airline currently has one trip per day on Saturdays, in the morning.
