20th May 2003

Jim French, Managing Director of UK airline FlyBE, has been named `Airline Executive of the Year.`

He won the prestigious award from international airline publication, Regional Airline World for his “dedication in transforming British European to FlyBE and successfully creating a new business model for the future regional airline market.”

The accolade was announced at the annual meeting of the US Regional Airline Convention in Phoenix.

The convention heard Mr French praised for successfully turning around the fortunes of the airline during difficult times, transforming the company from a traditional business airline to a high profile, low fares airline and most importantly, turning it around from a multi-million pound loss maker to a profitable concern.

French was also congratulated for launching a new hub at Southampton and developing popular leisure routes; selecting the right aircraft to make FlyBE profitable and for his courage in taking on British Airways.
