Malaysia Airlines Visa Golf Challenge

The “Malaysia Airlines- Visa Golf Challenge 2003” Golden Holiday tournament package, comprising the `Domestic Golf Challenge` and `International Golf Challenge`, was launched today at the 15th MATTA International Travel Fair in Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), Kuala Lumpur.


YB Dato` Dr Ng Yen Yen, the Malaysian Deputy Minister of Culture Arts & Tourism, launched the `Domestic Golf Challenge` which showcases five Malaysia Airlines destinations, namely Langkawi, Kuantan, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu.

This domestic tournament package, involves a monthly series of departures to the above destinations effective mid-April till end-Oct 2003 with a possibility of further extension based on demand.


Mr Kushwinder Singh, Visa International`s Deputy Country Manager for Malaysia, Brunei and Guam, launched the `International Golf Challenge` of this package involving 10 international Malaysia Airlines destinations (Perth, Sydney, Auckland, Ho Chi Minh city, Melbourne, Yangoon, Johannesburg, Surabaya, Jakarta and Denpasar) as well as Gold Coast, Australia.


The international tournament package, covers a series of departures to the above destinations commencing April 2003 till April 2004.

Participation in both the packages, limited to 32 golfers per tournament, is open to individual amateur male and female golfers aged 18 years and above with a USGA or club verified handicap of 24 for male and 36 for female golfers.


A 3 days / 2 nights stay at a participating hotel, 2 rounds of tournament golf, airport-hotel and ground transfers, daily breakfast, awards lunch or dinner presentations awaits golfers participating in this challenge.


The tournament for each package will be held for two days, played on the Stableford point system 36 over 36 holes where winning scores will be based on Gross and Nett Champions. Finalists will be invited for the “Champion of Champions” Grand Finals in Kuala Lumpur fully hosted by the organisers.


Malaysia Airlines Golden Holidays successfully organised the first ever overseas tournament based golf event in Perth, Australia in 1998. Thereafter it launched a series of successful international and domestic tournament packages in partnership with various organisations.


This year, Malaysia Airlines Golden Holidays has teamed up with Visa International to conceptualize the Malaysia Airlines-Visa Golf Challenge 2003.
