bmi Opens £1.5m Business Facility

Mr Peter Robinson, MP for Belfast East, today officially opened new dedicated bmi business lounges facilities at Belfast City Airport.

bmi has invested £1.5m in the major upgrade programme that includes higher standards of convenience and comfort for business travellers.Ê As well as lounges, boasting the highest levels of comfort and the very latest in business technology, passengers will benefit from a new modern air-bridge facility, making the boarding process more efficient and protecting passengers from inclement weather conditions.

Welcoming Mr Robinson, Austin Reid, chief executive officer of bmi, said
“Eighteen months ago, when we moved the majority of our London Heathrow services to Belfast City Airport, we made some promises and gave a commitment to Northern Ireland travellers.Ê We said we wanted to work with the airport to provide facilities that would cope with an increase in demand for our services and that would be consistent with our business offering at other airports on our network.Ê Today we have delivered on those promises.

“Last year more than 900,000 passengers flew between Heathrow and Belfast with bmi.Ê That is more than 45 per cent of all Belfast passengers flying to any of the London airports. This is a considerable vote of confidence in our services and we remain committed to providing travellers to and from Northern Ireland with a wide range of competitive air services.”
