Airbus Delivers A321 for MyTravel

European leisure company MyTravel today took delivery of its first direct purchased Airbus A321 for its Danish airline MyTravel Airways A/S. Two more A321s will be delivered end of March.

The three aircraft will operate from each of the three Scandinavian countries and will serve holiday destinations around the Mediterranean and also to more remote resorts such as the Canary Islands. The new single-aisle aircraft is the 31st A320 Family aircraft for the whole MyTravel group and joins the carrier’s mix of four A330-200s and three A330-300s.

The A321 is the largest member of the Airbus A320 single-aisle Family, which consists of the 100-seater A318, A319, A320 and A321. Airbus A320 Family features the widest cabin in its class and offers unmatched comfort for passengers. In MyTravel’s layout the aircraft can seat 220 passengers in a single class layout and will be powered by CFM56-5B engines.

With the simultaneous operations of Airbus A320 Family and A330-200/300 aircraft MyTravel will especially benefit from the Airbus philosophy of commonality amongst its fly-by-wire aircraft family. All new generation Airbus aircraft share the same cockpit and, through the technology of Airbus fly-by-wire controls, share the same handling characteristics, allowing pilots to fly any model with only minor amounts of additional training thus enormously increasing efficiency in airline’s operations.

MyTravel and Airbus have a long-standing partnership, which started in 1990 when MyTravel’s Scandinavian forerunner Conair was the first leisure airline ever ordering an A320 aircraft. Since then, Airbus became the clear market leader in the European tourism and low-fare industry with nearly 350 A320 Family aircraft in operation or on order.
