FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines today announced the election of Gary F. Kennedy, 47, as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. His appointment follows the retirement of Anne H. McNamara, 55, a 27-year veteran of the company.
Laura Einspanier, 44, was elected to replace Kennedy as Vice President - Corporate Real Estate. Einspanier joined American in 1991.
“Anne McNamara is regarded across our industry as the dean of airline general counsels, and we thank her for nearly three decades of service to American, ” said Don Carty, American’s Chairman and CEO. “We are fortunate to have had her leadership and guidance during a period of enormous growth, challenge and change at American.”
Carty said McNamara would continue to work with American during a transition period.
Kennedy, a 19-year veteran of the company, worked in American’s Legal Department from 1984 to 1991, after serving in private practice at two law firms. At American, he gained experience on a wide range of legal issues before joining the Corporate Real Estate Department, where he served as Managing Director before being named Vice President in 1996. Kennedy earned both his B.A. and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Utah.
“We are fortunate to have a professional of Gary’s talent, experience and maturity as Anne’s successor,” Carty said. “He has been broadly exposed to virtually every aspect of our business and will be a valued member of the senior management team.”
Laura Einspanier will succeed Kennedy as Vice President - Corporate Real Estate. Einspanier joined American’s Legal Department in 1991, after seven years in private practice with a major Dallas law firm. She served as the company’s Associate General Counsel before joining American’s Corporate Real Estate Department in 2001 as Managing Director. She holds B.A. and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Texas.
“Laura has been involved in some of our most sensitive and challenging facilities issues, both in the Corporate Real Estate Department and in her role as Associate General Counsel. She is a strong successor to lead our real estate team,” Carty said.
