The new AirAsia was established in 12th December 2001 when Tune Air took over the airline from DRB Hicom, changed the concept to make AirAsia the first low fare, ticketless airline in Asia. AirAsia`s new low fares, no frills operations commenced a month later and since then the airline has made waves not only in Malaysia but also in the region. The airline has increased its fleet of aircraft from two to six, expanded its routes from three to ten and became Asia`s first online airline by offering an internet sales facility at www.airasia.com.
